New Guild Studio designed and produced all of the following work shown in this portfolio:
Color Scheme and Decorative Painting
A new color scheme was developed for the interior of the Church to create a devotional quality more expressive of sacred space. To add a sense of architectural detail to the modern, predominantly brick interior, silkscreened and hand painted lengths of design motifs were produced on canvas, and then adhered to raised panels installed to the walls for dimension.
The redesign of the sanctuary included a decorated, curved reredos wall built in two sections and installed to the left and right of the tabernacle, to direct subtle focus to the space. New large, raised decorative panels were installed between the stained glass windows throughout the nave for further aesthetic balance and continuity.
Liturgical Furniture and Appointments
An altar of sacrifice was salvaged from another local Parish and reused here. To compliment St. Joseph Church's new altar, New Guild Studio designed and produced a new pulpit, presider's chair and tabernacle throne using bottochino marble and oak. A new glass and gilded wood ambry was made, as well as a new bronze sanctuary lamp.
Liturgical Art
In the shape of a triptych, a symbolic, hand formed copper on wood sculpture was created for the Baptistery.
Figurative copper relief sculpted Stations of the Cross were designed and made by hand. Custom gilded frames were made for each station.
Additional Renovations
A new lighting system and new sanctuary flooring to complement the existing nave carpeting that was to remain was also undertaken as part of the renovation. |
