New Guild Studio designed and produced all of the following work shown in this portfolio:
Iconography
An iconography program was developed for St. John Chrysostom interior. Some of the large wall icons include the "Pantocrator" on the nave ceiling, the "Platytera" in the altar apse, the Parable of the "True Vine" on the altar wall, and a selection of Christ's Parables and Miracles on the nave walls between the windows. All of these icons were painted in artist's oil colors, on canvas.
Thirty-eight new icons were created for the iconostasis. Each icon was painted with artist's oil colors on wood panel.
A series of icons depicting martyrs is installed on the back wall of the Church above the choir. They, too, were painted in artist's oil colors, on canvas, and then installed to the walls.
Color and Decorative Scheme
Extensive decoration adorns the walls and ceiling throughout the Church. All of the decoration is hand painted and silkscreened. The color scheme and designs work together to create a sense of warmth that, prior to the renovation, was absent. They further serve to unify and balance the impressive icon screen and mixture of iconography with the colorful stained glass windows.
Church Furniture
The original iconostasis structure was refurbished and elements of it were redesigned. Both of the side shrines were designed and produced to compliment and extend the icon screen. A new pulpit, baptismal font and tetrapod were also designed and produced to match the iconostasis and new shrines.
Additional Renovations
A new lighting and dimming system, a new sound system, new flooring, and pews restoration were all important features that were undertaken to complete the renovation of the Church interior. |
